We all know that Christmas is one of the most popular holidays in the United States. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that there are an estimated thirteen million ways to celebrate it! From the very beginning of the celebration, Christmas has been steeped in tradition. The way people have celebrated this wonderful holiday throughout the centuries reveals much about the beliefs and customs of those who attend and participate in the festivities. Here, we’ve listed some of our personal favorites to get you in the holiday spirit.
First, you need to make sure you have a prelit Christmas tree. While others have their Christmas trees up until January others wait until the last week of December before they even think about decorating their tree. Either way, though, Christmas traditions always begin with that first decoration placed on that great big Christmas tree in the front window.
Decorating the House
Another important part of the Christmas traditions is decorating the house. If you’re lucky enough to have snow on the ground when Christmas time comes, that means you can start your decorating early! The tradition goes back at least a hundred years, so it’s something you’ve probably grown up with. At Christmas time, young children all over the country are known to decorate their houses, wreaths are hung, candy canes are drawn, and of course, the prelit Christmas tree gets wrapped in multiple layers of beautiful ribbons.
Traditions such as Christmas Eve involve everyone partying up until well into the night. Many people start their Christmas celebrations early, shopping for gifts, cooking Christmas dinner, preparing Christmas dinner, decorating the house, getting everybody to drink rum and eggnog, and of course, enjoying the Christmas music. These Christmas traditions make up a huge part of the Christmas spirit.
We enjoy Christmas traditions so much, just as we enjoy the holiday and our families during this special time.
